Yellow comes in all shapes and Sizes

I wanted to get a few more shots of "Yellow" in before the new theme starts tomorrow.  I had a few different ideas starting with this one.  This turtle was at the Aquarium in Charleston.  I've had this thing for turtles (esp. sea turtles) ever since Finding Nemo introduced me to Crush.  Dude he was just too cool.

This grasshopper was happily sunning himself on the bright yellow leaf.  I think is was a coleus of some sort.

Yeah I know, any excuse at all to get another spider shot in there huh.  But her back IS yellow albeit a very pale yellow.

This is one of the many types of Crab Spider.  I had never seen any of these guys until I moved to South Carolina.  There's an abundance of them here.

The fall harvest equals "Fair" time in most parts of the US.  As I write the County Fair is in full swing here.  I'm going on Saturday which will be the last days it's here ... until next year.  I'm not a fan of crowds, but it always makes for a great photo ops and fattening yummies.  Night shots are hard at the fair.  Plenty of bright lights but far too crowded to be able to use a tripod.  Although I liked the composition in this shot, it wasn't sharp enough for me and became "Art"

And this golden shower is one last reminder of summer.  The 4th of July fireworks display down at the local baseball field.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

  1. That turtle is gorgeous! :-) I'm not so keen on the crab spider, though she is beautiful she looks mean!

    Superb photos!

  2. The turtle definitely stands out. And now I want to see fireworks, the 4th of July variety, not the New Year's variety. 4th of July is much warmer. ;)

  3. The crab spider is amazing! Although, I’m glad to see it in a photo and not in real life :)

  4. You just don't know how tickled I get at seeing pictures litterally from my own backyard.

I am unaware of how long you have been here, so excuse me for asking but, had you been to our lovely fair before? I have been going every year for 25 years and I just have to tell sucks.

Now, let me explain. When I was younger, I did the whole riding rides and playing games thing. But as I got older and really started taking notice of the carnies, I thought to myself "If they cannot operate a toothbrush properly, how the FUCK are they putting up these rides?" It was then that I vowed not to ride rides unless I was in Carowinds or Six Flags or Disney. The food is worth the trip, and so is the people watching (because the FREAKS come out for the Ladson Fair), but other than that, is is expensive, and dare I say......smelly.

Okay, I will get off the soapbox now.

As for your other pictures, I love them!! Then crab spider is just lovely, but be careful....they bite and it HURTS!!

  5. I love the spider!! I'm totally creepy like that though.

  6. I've been here 8 years now Amber, and yes I've been to the fair a few times ... but usually because I'm drug, kicking and screaming. I don't do the rides, anything that goes in a circle makes me green ... even ferris wheels and merry go rounds.

I like the displays esp. the quilts and the photographs (although I don't think the people that judge that know a thing about photography)

Good to know about the crab spiders, I don't mess with them just take their picture. They seem to be more shy than most, I've never seen one act aggressively.

  7. That is the scariest freaking spider I've ever seen! And I'm supposed to LIKE crabs (being a cancer and all)--LOVE the turtle though--and these are some great pics, even if I am still shivering from the damn spider.

  8. Great pics...the grasshopper on the leaf is a great shot...not so sure about the spider... i really do not like spiders...

  9. Hi Sally,
These are truly fabulous photographs. An absolute visual delight. I let Penny look at them, well, with the exception of the last one:-) And 'golden shower'....'no Gary...resist...'
    Take good careful yourself.
    With respect and kindness, Gary

  10. my favourite picture is the spider I have never seen a spider like that thanks

  11. I thank all of you for visiting and the kind remarks.

I'm sorry if my Arachnelove creeps some of you out, but the simple fact is that Spider is the totem that nudges me to write and I'll always honor her here. I promise none of my photos are good enough that they can come through the screen and bite you though, deal?

and yes Gary, I probably should have caught that, but thank you for behaving.

  12. Oh, this makes me miss home... I lived in MtP for a number of years, and the drawl comes back every time I drink. :) I miss Chas., and the Aquarium downtown was one of my favorite things to do. Hope you take pics of the Christmas boat parade!

  13. It's lovely, chilly, but fun. And spectacular photo op, provided you get a good view.

This has me walking down memory lane, in fact it's inspired a LowCountry food post coming up.

  14. These shots are amazing! Love the crab spider, what an amazing creature! Certainly beats most of the spiders we have in the U.K.
